From Healing Myself to Healing Others: My Journey to Becoming a Massage Therapist

When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to work in health care, but I didn’t want to follow the traditional medical path. I was drawn to the idea of offering personalized, holistic care. Something that looked beyond symptoms and treated the people as a whole, a complete self.

This desire set me on a journey that eventually led me to become a massage therapist, a path shaped by my own healing experiences and a deep connection to energy and body awareness.

Discovering a Passion for Psychology and Energy

I pursued a bachelor’s degree in psychology because I was fascinated by my own mind and wanted to understand it. The science of the mind and behavior further interested me, leading me to study it even in my free time. I loved learning about how our brains work and how our thoughts influence our health. But as much as I admired the scientific approach, I felt something was missing. The spiritual and energetic aspects of healing, which I had always sensed around me, were rarely discussed in my studies.

Since childhood, I have been able to see energy fields, auras, connections, and even glimpses of the future. This ability felt as natural to me as seeing a building or a tree. Energy has been a constant part of my life, shaping how I understand the world and myself.

Battling Health Challenges

After college, I faced serious health challenges that the conventional medical system struggled to address. At 22, I was taking over 20 prescribed pills a day and had difficulty walking. The medications helped quiet my symptoms but did not heal the root causes or listen to what my body was truly telling me.

My aunt suggested I see a chiropractor to help me walk upright. After just one visit, my spine was aligned, and I felt immediate relief in my ability to walk comfortably. This experience made me question the way medicine often treats symptoms without addressing the whole person. Medicine never listened to my struggles, it was almost as if it went in one ear and out the other.

I began exploring holistic therapies, including somatic therapy, energy readings, herbal medicine, and Reiki. I started healing my body’s imbalances one by one, learning to listen to my body and its energy.

Becoming a Reiki master was a turning point. Oddly enough, Reiki found me, a name and an interest. At the time, I had never heard it before, but intuitively felt a call towards it.

The training deepened my understanding of energy as the core of healing. Energy is invisible but present everywhere, in the environment, in our emotions, and in the spaces we inhabit. Yet, it often goes unnoticed and uncared for.

Finding My Calling in Massage Therapy

Becoming a Reiki Master sparked my interest in sharing what I had learned and helping others heal. I had begun to overcome my own well-rounded challenges and felt the need to share that gift with anyone who was interested. I sought a way to combine my knowledge of energy with hands-on healing. That’s when I discovered massage therapy.

I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do. Massage therapy allows me to work directly with the body’s muscles, tissues, and energy pathways. It’s a practice that blends science and intuition, touch and energy, physical relief and emotional release.

Massage therapy gave me a way to support others in their healing journeys, just as I had supported myself. It’s a profession where I can offer personalized care, listen deeply, and help people reconnect with their bodies.

What Massage Therapy Means to Me

Massage therapy is a way to respect the connection between mind, body, and spirit. I've realized that touch is incredibly powerful, especially when it's intentional and positive. The energy put into a session must be deliberate. The energy I bring to each appointment must be welcoming and grounded, and the room's atmosphere must be safe and comfortable. These details help me to be more intentional in my own life, but also embodying the intentions supports each client towards their goals.

Seeing my clients achieve their goals through their treatment plans is deeply rewarding for me. Concentrating on their objectives with my intention and skill is where the magic begins. Massage therapy takes team effort.

Exploring Holistic Healing

If you’re struggling with health challenges or seeking a deeper connection to your body, I encourage you to explore holistic therapies. Whether it’s massage, energy work, or herbal remedies, these approaches can complement traditional medicine and offer impactful paths to wellness.

My journey shows that healing is not linear. It involves trial, discovery, and sometimes stepping outside the mainstream to find what truly works for you.

Becoming a massage therapist allowed me to turn my personal healing into a meaningful career. It’s a way to give back, support others, and continue learning about the incredible power of the human body and energy.

If you feel drawn to holistic care or want to explore massage therapy, take the first step. Your body and spirit will thank you.
